Homeowner Stuff

This past weekend I replaced the garbage disposal. It was the first time I ever delved into that territory. The previous one stopped working about a week or so prior and leaked a bit, so I decided to replace it after not being able to figure out how to get it to work. It was a bit challenging but really wasn't that difficult. I did end up spending a few hours on it though. When I first put it together it leaked, but I was able to seal it eventually. It was very satisfying to complete it without many problems. That's one nice thing about owning a home (even though I don't really "own" the house since I have a mortgage on it and I will never really own it as long as big government charges me property taxes for existing within "their" territory...but I won't get into that). Rather than calling for a maintenance person when renting, you're responsible for fixing things around the house. That's actually good to learn certain things, but also can be frustrating to deal with. I'm sure I'll come across bigger problems than a garbage disposal as this house ages. It's cool though. I'd rather rely on me to procrastinate fixing things than waiting on others to come and fix them. Just like dealing with car problems, it really does feel good when you're able to fix problems on your own and learn some new things.

This same weekend while I was getting the garbage disposal from Home Depot, some guy working there (who actually helped me to find some things I needed) solicited me to get information about converting to solar energy. This guy had home depot gear but was representing a solar energy company so I'm not sure if he actually works there or pretended to work there in order to sell his crap. Well, being the yes man that I usually am I entertained his solicitation. I thought he was just going to give me a brochure or send me information on solar energy, but he got my information and set up a consultation over the phone with someone from that solar company to show me a presentation. I said sure like an idiot even though I wasn't really interested (some solar energy guy tried to sell me solar energy when I first bought the house, like many other solicitors at the time, and I declined to go for it). The presentation was fine (I got a call, but while in the call I had to click a link to share his screen) and of course it was convincing that I'll save a lot of money. At the end of the whole thing I made the cheapest choice to not actually own the panels, but sort of rent them. Even though I wouldn't be financing it, they wanted to check my credit. Of course I was declined because I have so much crap on my credit report. My credit score is fine (not great, but not terrible). If it went through it seemed like a pretty good deal and I might have actually gone through with it, but I'm so not very interested in doing it. Oh well, good pitch my man, but sorry I wasted your time.
