Memory Lane - I Wrote in to a Radio Show

When I lived in Greenville, I used to listen to a conservative radio station (WORD) and I would sometimes tune in to the Bob McLain Show that would play in the afternoon while I worked. He's a typical conservative host trying to mimic Rush Limbaugh and was anti-Islam and such. I cant stand most political commentators because they're always so biased and they have to back their candidates on every issue no matter what it is. It's funny because i remember on Fridays his intro music was "I Dont Wanna Work", some old fun, silly song that he would sing along with. But during election season the guy who sings the song had a concert and made a comment that he didnt want Trump supporters to come. Bob McLain was upset by this and decided to not play that song anymore because of it. I thought that was hilarious. Anyway, back in 2014 I was listening to his show and he was talking about Islam and the Quran and how the religion promotes terrorism. I dont remember what exactly...

I Got Stopped for Speeding in a School Zone

A few weeks ago I was pulled over right after dropping the girls off at school. I was heading to work, but right before I got out the school zone I see flashing lights from a motorcycle cop. I wasnt even going that fast and I was behind another vehicle going at their pace. When I pulled over I was thinking I should take my phone out and start recording like a first amendment auditor. He told me I was going "21 in a 15" which is so stupid. Like, come on, thats not even that fast, idiot. I should have been like "am I being detained? What crime do you suspect me of committing? Do you have reasonable articulable suspicion?" He asked for ID and registration and I gave it to him like a good boy. I should have got into nigger mode and argued with him and pulled the race card. "Why didnt you pull the other car over? Is it cuz I'm black?" Maybe I should have pulled off and got into a high speed chase. That would be cool. Anyways, sure enough I got a written war...

Panhandling for a Funeral

I was driving up the street from my job to pick up some food from a restaurant for a meeting I lead when I saw people on almost all corners of a busy intersection and in the median at the stop lights holding signs to raise money for a funeral. The signs said something about a funeral for a guy that got killed in a car accident and I'm thinking "It's a little ironic to be in the middle of a busy intersection for someone who died in a car accident and there's a lot of crazy drivers out here and you put yourself in danger with so much traffic. Someone holding a sign was actually walking in the crosswalk when it really wasn't okay to be crossing at the time since traffic on the other side of the street had a green light. It would be so embarrassing if one of them got hit. I'm sorry for your loss and all but stop with the begging for money in the middle of busy intersections. Do people actually give money there? There are so many people with signs begging for money ...

Old Men

I was in the grocery store parking lot heading into the store and I saw a good-looking chick wearing small shorts carrying some flowers going to her car. As I headed to the doors I heard some old men at the handicap parking spots talking and I knew they were talking about the chick. I heard one say (loudly) "They'll break your neck out here!". Then the other guy was like "In my younger years they used to  break my back!" (or something to that effect) and the first guy was like "I know that's right!". They were so loud, too. I'm like "Nasty old men there are children out here!". I guess old men don't care how perverted they are. When you're young you say those things quietly amongst your boys, but when you're older you don't care who hears you. Men are such pervs. I must be too since I also noticed her before I heard them talking. Oh well. Yeah that's worthy of my first blog in over a year. My life is so uninteresti...

My Sweet Daugthers

I was driving to the store with the girls in the car and I started playing some Celine Dion. I sung along with it, hitting the high notes and all (terribly), and really getting into it as if nobody can see me or hear me (well, it was dark, so I don't think anybody coulda really seen me). After a while, I stopped singing and asked my girls if they like my singing. They both said "Yes." I started laughing because I totally expected them to say "No" and make fun of me. They can be real honest and critical, so that caught me by surprise. I guess they really do like my singing. Thanks. Another day, we stopped at Wal-Mart and I got out the car to walk toward the store to find Mumina a motorized wheelchair to use. An old, white, big guy was using one of those chairs coming out of the store and he was close to his vehicle, so I went to him to ask if I could take the chair after he unloads his things. He said "sure" so I went and got everybody out the car. Afte...

It Must Be Hard Being Greasy

I parked at the grocery store in a handicap spot, put the tag up and walked toward the entrance. A guy was walking behind me and as I entered the store I hear him say "It must be hard being greasy." I wasn't sure if he was talking to me, so I kept walking. But then I heard him say it again. This time I felt like he definitely was talking to me, but I kept walking without looking back. As I was trying to figure out if he was really talking to me I heard him saying something else, but it sounded like he was on the phone with someone, continuing a conversation as if what he said before was part that conversation. I didn't catch what he was saying, but it was something like "...so my mom was trying to buy something or other from someone...." I don't know, I forgot what exactly he said, but it sounded like maybe he got on the phone and his earlier statement was leading him to tell someone about how someone tried to scam his mom or something. I didn't look...

Faux Pas

I was doing more training with another coworker I just met today and he said he was soon going to be transferring to our company's Phoenix office because his fiance got a job there. After talking for a bit I asked a question about his "wife" and he started using "he" to refer to them and in my head I'm like "oops, I thought for sure he said he had a wife". I didn't remember if he actually mentioned a wife or something else. Of course I didn't catch any of what he was saying since that just threw me off. Later on he did say "fiance" and I'm like "oh, that's what he must have said initially...my bad". That must've been so awkward for him to hear me say that and try to answer with the switch up. He didn't correct me and I didn't apologize or correct myself, so it made it really awkward going forward in our conversations. I felt bad for assuming things, but I swear I'm not a homophobe. I don't jud...

I cut part of my finger tip off

Image
I accidentally cut part of my right index finger off with a 1-blade folding utility knife (had to look up exactly what to call it). Anyways, I was working in the field training with one of our soil techs. I recently started a new rotation at my job where I'll be in the field testing soil compaction for various projects. We were taking a break so I left the job site and pulled into a shopping center parking lot. I was planning on looking for a battery for my key fob for my car since it's been needing a replacement for a while. I previously bought one battery but realized later it needed two. Well, I put off getting another battery for a while because I'm lazy, it seemed to still be working ok, and I wanted to see how long it can last before it craps out and I get stuck not being able to lock or start my car (it's one of those button start cars with a remote fob). Well my car almost didn't want to start so I decided I should probably finally get another battery (Well ...

Daddy Issues?

I was at work in my office and playing different youtube videos to get me thru the day with things to listen to. One of my recommended videos was a news piece talking about a program that allows kids to spend time with their incarcerated dads for the day in a gymnasium. It's from about 6 years ago but I just clicked it since it seemed interesting. As it played I started to get teary eyed. It was so weird because I didnt expect to really react to it. When I caught myself and tried to just let it play I was getting teary eyed again. It's not like it was super emotional but it did have some moments. I didnt know what to make of it, but I  think it made me think of my kids and the idea of not being able to see them for such a long time. I've watched videos before or listened to songs which made me think of my kids and felt emotional, so I guess this was one of those times. But it reminded me of the time some years ago before I even had kids where I was watching some program and...

Saying what you really want to say

I was out at a couple of stores, a Japanese market (Mumina loves the Udon noodle soups there) and WalMart. In both I had a quick interaction where I thought afterwords "what if I said what I really wanted to say?" just to see how they respond. In the Japanese market, I went into a section and a girl worker was on a step stool doing something with the products. She didn't see me initially, so when she turned to me she got a little startled. I asked if I scared her and she was like "oh, no". She was nice and told me to let her know if I needed help with anything. That was that, but my alternate response that came to me after I asked if I scared her would be "don't worry, I'm scared of black people too" 😄. I'm so racist. I say that when I accidently scare Mumina. I wonder how she would've reacted....probably turn red feeling guilty and embarrassed. I should do that one day. At Walmart Mumina was with me and I had a big vacuum in my cart. ...

Ramblers

I was at the grocery store gas station and a lady on the opposite pump from me came up to me and just started talking about her experience with the negative attendant. She was basically saying that so many people just have negative attitudes so thats why she tries to stay positive when dealing with them. She went on to describe several different situations dealing with negative people. I chimed in here and there but for the most part she did all the talking. Not only that, but she was a rambler. She would mention something and add meaningless extra details while staying on topic. She kept going on and on, but it's fine. I'm a listener. I just got off work and was in the middle of some errands, but was in no rush and wasn't bothered. She was nice, but just needed to get some stuff off her chest. Anyways, I thought it was funny because I seem to attract ramblers. In all my relationships with females, they have been ramblers, but in slightly different ways. They all can talk a...

Trusting A Nigga

I've been working at the Las Vegas airport for the last few months. It's a project where they are installing bollards onto the sidewalk. The bollards are cylindrical structures which are lined up along the road to prevent vehicles from encroaching on the sidewalk. They placed them along "The Strip" recently and decided it was a good idea to place at airport. Anyways that's not the point of this. So the work is  in front of the terminal but we have to park down the hill in a closed off area near the airport employee parking lot. So I was sitting in my car writing up my report (or just getting some AC, either way) and a flight attendant (I think) walked by (I see a lot of people dressed up walking by and I think they're flight attendants and pilots, and they always have luggage so I'm pretty sure that's what they are). She was a young attractive white lady and she walked past my car toward the terminal. A little later I see her come back toward my car an...

Almost Scammed

I nearly got scammed. I received a text from "my bank" suspecting fraud asking if a Zelle transaction was authorized or not. I've gotten similar texts from my bank that actually were from them that would ask if certain transactions were authorized. Over the last few months I've gotten those texts and have had to replace several bank cards, so it wasn't so weird to get this. I was just thinking "here we go again" since I just finished dealing with recent fraud activity and replacing a card. Well, I replied "no" and they immediately called me. They sounded so legit and even spoofed my actual bank's fraud #, so there weren't any red flags right away. I didn't realize right away that it was spoofed, but confirmed it immediately after the call. Anyways, the guy told me that money was being sent to someone (he gave a name that I don't remember) for something like $4500 and that they were trying to recover the money before it's pr...

Dreams

I got into a discussion with myself the other day while driving. I was giving thought to what dreams might mean. Dreams can be so random, but seem so realistic at times. This discussion revolved around the possibility that dreams occur in a parallel universe or may even be a glimpse of a past life. I've heard discussions about parallel universes before but never really delved into it or given it serious thought. I don't have strong feelings either way as to whether it could be a real thing or not. But I thought it could be that because often dreams occur in the present time, but details are different. Like the dream that kinda triggered this discussion I had an infant son who had died, but he eventually magically came back to life. I felt that this was Sanai, but it was definitely a boy. I wondered if maybe in a parallel universe I had a son but it occurred in the present time. I don't know for certain if it was the present, so that opens the possibility of it being in a to...

Grim Thoughts

I'm sure everyone goes through moments where they realize how short and finite our time here is. Our entire existence is so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. When you think of how large the universe is and how much we don't even know here on earth such as what exists deep in the oceans and the complex life forms all over the planet, etc. It becomes even scarier when we wonder what exactly happens when we die and if there is even anything for us afterwards. I feel confident that we experience life after death and not just by what religion teaches us. I'm fascinated with accounts of near-death experiences and how they all are unique but at the same time have eerily similar elements. I also strongly believe in a higher power and again not just from what religion teaches us. But I think we all wonder "what is the point of this life?", "How does it relate to our afterlife (if there is one)?". There has to be something to it all. Why is our existenc...

Memory Lanes - School Lunchtime

Throughout my grade school career I was an admitted loser. I barely had any real friends, didn't talk to many people, and sat alone at lunch time. I still made time to have many embarrassing moments during those lunch periods. I'll reminisce here a bit. Well I was enrolled in public school starting in 5th grade in elementary school. Lunch periods we only sat with our class, but I still didn't really talk to anyone. I remember one kid mocking the way I eat my popcorn. Mom always would pack some popcorn (made from those classic popcorn makers every morning). I would hold the bag of popcorn in my lap rather than just have it on the table. I don't remember it bothering me too much that he mocked me except it was a little embarrassing. It was another loser kid anyway so nobody paid attention. When I started middle school I was used to just sitting with my class at lunch, so at my first lunch I sat near people that were from my class not realizing I can sit anywhere I wanted....

Sold My Chevy

Image
I sold my Chevy Equinox for cheap. For the last few months I had it sitting in the garage. I called a place last week that buys cars but put it on hold when I found that the battery was bad. They wanted pictures of the car but I couldn't get any until I took it out the garage. Even when I got a new battery it was acting up and wouldn't work. I was able to use my battery charger to get it to start (the old battery wouldn't start when I hooked it up but this one did). So I got it running and backed it out to the driveway. I finally called the place back yesterday and got it sold for $175. I'm just happy to get rid of that piece of crap. Now that my garage is clearer I can sort through the rest of the crap taking up space in the garage. I still have a bunch of old stuff I brought from SC that I never fully went through. I'm sure most of it is useless crap but I need to get to it. I'm trying to declutter and get organized. Right now it's just a big mess. I also ...

Memory Lanes

Not much going on so I'll reminisce. In my freshman high school Spanish class one assignment was to do a report on a foreign country. I'm not sure if it was just to report facts about the country or create a fictional visit there. Either way it was obviously to be written in Spanish, but we also were to draw the flag of that country on a poster board as part of the presentation. Well I chose Scotland since I was a fan of them in the FIFA video games. For the flag I colored it purple instead of blue only because the soccer team wore purple. I think I knew it was supposed to be blue and wanted to make it blue, but went ahead with purple anyway since I guess I convinced myself that the uniforms were the correct color for the flag. This was before easy access to internet for us ('98), so I couldn't just do a quick google search (or Ask Jeeves as it were at the time) to look it up. But I'm pretty sure I used our old encyclopedias we had for research for this project, so ...

Recent Memory Lane

When I was buying our house in 2019, I was using my gmail to communicate with the realtor. At the time I recently switched my Google name to "Moz H", so that's what showed up as my name in the email. So when we spoke on the phone he says "Hey Moz" (pronounced like it rhymes with Oz, which I suppose is how it appears). It sounded too weird so I changed my Google name back to my real name. He was a cool guy...a bit hyper, but he was good. Thanks, guy, but call me by my actual name.

Bought a Car

Image
Well I've bought a car through Carvana. My old vehicle was having too many troubles over the last few months, but especially the last few weeks. We started a new rotation at my job where I'll be in the field for the next three months at least, but likely more in the next rotation also. So I have to do a lot more driving going to different job sites which are usually around 15-20 minutes from the office. My vehicle continued to overheat and I was adding coolant about everyday. When it overheats it shifts into a different gear and drives much slower and grinds a little bit. When I come to a stop after driving for a bit in that mode it will usually cut off. Thankfully it'll start up right away (unlike before when it was cutting off randomly and took 15-20 seconds to restart), but it could shut right back off. I had to time the lights right by quickly restarting the car and shifting to drive as traffic starts moving since it'll cut right back off if I don't start moving...
